Bleaching Cows are hot topic in climate debate By Hassan Gali

Presented: 10/04/11

Hassan Gali

Purpose: My purpose was to show the affect cow belching has on global warming. I wanted to do this by showing how cow burps are essentially a bigger contributor to global warming than coalmines, landfills, and sewage treatment plants by presenting  the fact that one quarter of the methane released in the U.S. each year is from cow belching. I also wanted to show how no efforts by  the Obama administration to take action on limiting these green house emissions.
  Discussion Questions:

Do you think this is a priority in terms of environmental issues that need to be handled right now, and that the government needs to take more progressive measures in working to lessening the amount of methane produced by these cows each year?

If you were convinced that cow belching was a serious detriment to our environment, what would you be willing to do?

Additional Information:
- The EPA under the Obama administration has stated that it has no plans to regulate the gas.

- There had been a farm lobby campaign that equates a government regulation with a cow tax that would curb green house emissions.

- House aides and EPA officials say that controlling such emissions is unworkable.
